About the Role
The Facilities Technician is responsible for carrying out a wide range of maintenance and cleaning duties to ensure the upkeep and functionality of the facility. This includes cleaning floors, carpets, walls, windows, and doors, as well as managing trash and recycling disposal and maintaining restrooms, stairwells, offices, and other areas as needed.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee and perform repairs on building electrical systems including lights, fixtures, switches, photocells, and outlets; support licensed electricians with simpler repair tasks.
- Monitor and service HVAC systems by replacing parts and performing cleaning and adjustments on heating and cooling components.
- Conduct non-technical maintenance and repairs on plumbing systems such as fixing leaks, clearing blockages, installing water coolers, and assisting licensed plumbers.
- Carry out carpentry-related maintenance including drywall installation/repair, window and door replacements, painting, cabinet and countertop installation.
- Assist with maintenance of water treatment and storage systems as required.
- Perform general custodial work and waste management tasks to keep the facility clean and orderly.
- Conduct minor repairs to kitchen equipment.
- Ensure proper use and upkeep of tools, equipment, and supplies while championing workplace safety and environmental standards. Document maintenance activities and maintain accurate records.
- Maintain tools and storage spaces neatly.
- Take care of facility gardens and flower beds.
- Maintain carpets within the facility.
- Carry out other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
- A minimum of three years' experience performing duties related to building maintenance and repair.
- Possession of a diploma from an accredited institution exceeding minimal educational requirements.
- Proficiency in at least one specialized trade such as electrical work, plumbing, HVAC, painting, drywall, or carpentry.
- Familiarity with computers, preferably within a Windows operating environment.
- Skills in maintaining accurate records.
- Ability to comprehend and follow detailed instructions and procedures.
- Competence in using both hand and power tools related to the trade.
- Capability to repair and maintain appliances and HVAC equipment.
- Strong knowledge and enforcement of safety protocols.
- Understanding of one or more building trades.
- Effective planning and prioritization skills, especially when working with preventative maintenance schedules.
