Role overview
We are seeking a proactive and driven Facilities Supervisor – Stores & Equipment to join the Estates & Facilities team at Aneurin Bevan University Health Board in Cwmbrân, Wales. This position plays an important part in keeping stores operations running smoothly across healthcare sites and supporting a reliable service for patients, staff, and visitors.
The role is focused on supervising the daily running of stores, making sure clinical and non-clinical supplies, along with catering goods, are received, stored, and issued efficiently. You will work with operational managers and teams from different disciplines to improve services and maintain high standards.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and oversee a team of facilities staff so work is carried out safely, efficiently, and to the required standard.
- Manage stores operations, including receipt of goods, stock control, and distribution to different departments.
- Track stock movement, stock rotation, and storage conditions to reduce shortages and avoid waste.
- Perform regular equipment inspections and arrange repairs through the appropriate teams.
- Ensure day-to-day work follows Health & Safety rules, COSHH requirements, food hygiene expectations, and NHS cleaning standards.
- Handle staff management duties such as training, appraisals, and absence monitoring.
- Deal with operational problems, decide what needs attention first, and escalate issues when needed.
- Develop effective working relationships with clinical teams, managers, and colleagues across services.
What the role requires
- Previous experience leading or supervising a team.
- Strong planning and organisational ability, including the skill to prioritise workloads.
- Clear communication and strong customer service capability.
- Confidence working under pressure and meeting deadlines.
- Good IT skills, with experience using stock or service management systems.
- Working knowledge of Health & Safety and COSHH regulations.
- Ability to encourage, support, and develop staff.
Qualifications and knowledge
- NVQ Level 3 in a supervisory role, or equivalent practical experience.
- Food Hygiene & Safety Level 2.
- Basic Health & Safety and Manual Handling certification.
- Knowledge of COSHH rules.
- Understanding of Health & Safety, HACCP policies, and related procedures.
- Customer service awareness.
Desirable qualifications and experience
- NVQ Level 2 in Cleaning or Catering Services.
- Health & Safety certificate.
- ECDL IT qualification.
- Food Hygiene & Safety Level 3.
- Food allergen awareness.
- Familiarity with NHS cleaning techniques in line with National Cleaning Standards for NHS Wales.
- Understanding of All Wales Nutrition and Catering Standards for food and fluid provision for hospital inpatients.
- Risk assessment experience, including carrying out assessments.
- Previous supervision of staff.
- Audit experience.
- Knowledge of medical gases.
- Knowledge of waste disposal processes.
Experience and working style
You should be willing to learn and develop further in the role, able to train staff in routine tasks, and comfortable handling urgent or unexpected deadlines. A healthcare background is helpful but not essential.
