Job description

Role Overview

The Auto Glass Technician plays a hands-on, customer-facing role at Safelite, using company training, specialized tools, and technology to handle repairs, replacements, and recalibration work both in the shop and through mobile service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver vehicle glass repair and replacement services at a shop or mobile location with strong attention to safety, quality, speed, and customer satisfaction, including cleaning the customer’s vehicle after each service.
  • Recalibrate automotive safety systems and carry out diagnostics and troubleshooting as needed.
  • Use Safelite equipment and systems effectively, such as True Seal®, Ezi-Wire™, the Glass Table System (GTS), required chemicals, work order/customer administration tools, and the handheld Mobile Resource Management (MRM) device.
  • Operate company and customer vehicles safely throughout the workday.
  • Stay in communication with scheduled customers by text, phone, and in person, and present or sell promotional products and services when appropriate.
  • Carry out additional duties assigned by management.
  • Follow company policies, standards, and operating procedures at all times.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Earn $5 for each set of wiper blades added for customer safety.

Education and Certification

  • High school diploma or GED/equivalent preferred.
  • Valid state-issued driver’s license and any other required licenses needed to operate a company vehicle.
  • Safelite SafeTech™ certification required.

Experience and Eligibility

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must be able to meet local legal and company eligibility requirements for employment.

Skills and Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 35 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Comfortable standing for long periods, working in confined areas, bending, and twisting.
  • Skilled in safe use of hand tools and power tools.
  • Ability to drive vehicles in compliance with federal, state, and local laws and accept in-cab camera/video monitoring.
  • Strong commitment to professional conduct and excellent customer service.
  • Able to work outdoors for extended periods in changing weather and extreme temperatures.
  • Willing and able to handle chemicals, including flammable substances, as required by the fitting process.
  • Available to work scheduled days with flexibility in start and end times based on customer needs.
  • Comfortable using computerized diagnostic tools for recalibration and troubleshooting.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, both independently and with others.
  • Able to read, write, and interpret English and technical instructions.
  • Able to communicate clearly by phone, writing, and electronic systems.
  • Maintains a professional appearance and follows uniform and PPE rules.
  • Able to perform well under time pressure and productivity expectations.
