Role overview

A fast-moving digital news company is looking for a highly polished Executive Assistant to support both the CEO and the Editor-in-Chief. This position is suited to someone who enjoys an energetic, mission-focused environment, works well in an entrepreneurial setting, and can stay flexible as priorities shift in a newsroom.

The role is fully in-office in Arlington, Virginia. It is intended for a self-starter who is comfortable taking initiative, managing multiple moving parts, and handling day-to-day executive support with a strong service mindset.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage complex executive calendars and coordinate meetings with both internal teams and outside contacts.
  • Arrange domestic travel, including flights, accommodations, and related trip logistics.
  • Act as a professional first contact for executives when communicating with staff and external stakeholders.
  • Protect sensitive and confidential information by using careful judgment and discretion.
  • Draft meeting agendas, prepare briefing documents and presentations, and capture follow-up actions.
  • Support inbox management by organizing priorities and composing replies when needed.
  • Partner with the Chief of Staff to monitor projects, deadlines, and major initiatives.
  • Set up executive meetings on-site and at off-site locations.
  • Stay ahead of executive needs and resolve scheduling or administrative issues before they become problems.
  • Look for ways to improve processes, simplify workflows, and increase executive efficiency.
  • Provide practical support across scheduling, coordination, and daily operational tasks.
  • Take on special projects and expand support to leadership as business needs evolve.

Candidate profile

Applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree and bring at least 3 years of experience supporting senior leaders in a fast-paced professional environment. Experience in media, publishing, or digital organizations is preferred. The ideal candidate is known for thinking ahead, building strong working relationships, communicating clearly, and keeping composure when priorities change.

Strong organizational ability, attention to detail, multitasking skills, and a calm approach under pressure are important. The role also requires professionalism, discretion, and advanced comfort with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Slack, and calendar tools. A collaborative attitude, problem-solving ability, and interest in current events, media, or politics are also valued.

Compensation and benefits

The expected pay range for this role is $100,000 to $120,000 per year, with final compensation depending on relevant experience and qualifications. Comprehensive benefits are included.
