Role overview
Jefferies is hiring an equity research associate to support a senior biotechnology analyst focused on mid-cap and small-cap biotech names. The role sits within a high-performing team aiming to reach the top tier of the biotech research space.
What you will do
- Carry out original research and assess drug pipelines by reviewing scientific publications, attending medical events, and speaking with subject matter experts.
- Prepare research publications for new coverage, in-depth data reviews, competitive analysis, and market or company developments.
- Analyze intellectual property matters and track pharmaceutical patent disputes.
- Develop and update financial models and presentation materials.
- Generate and deliver differentiated project ideas.
- Work with company executives, internal sales and trading teams, and institutional clients.
What we are looking for
- 1-2+ years of experience in healthcare investment research, whether on the sell side, buy side, or in investment banking; full licensing is required.
- A science-oriented academic background is required, with an MD or PhD preferred.
- Strong long-term interest in building a career in sell-side research.
- A self-driven, detail-oriented team contributor with a strong work ethic.
- Excellent ability to analyze preclinical and clinical data.
- Good knowledge of drug development and the FDA approval pathway for pharmaceuticals is preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Typing speed above 120 words per minute.
- Proven experience producing high-quality sell-side reports, PowerPoint decks, and detailed financial models such as three-statement models, DCFs, and market models.
- Experience using Excel to build financial models is an advantage.

Pay and benefits
The base salary range for this full-time position in the primary location is $100,000 to $120,000 per year, with final pay based on experience and qualifications. Eligible employees may also receive an annual discretionary incentive and retention bonus. Benefits for eligible full-time employees or part-time employees scheduled for at least 30 hours per week include medical, dental, and vision coverage; 401(k); life, accident, and disability insurance; wellness programs; paid time off; paid holidays; and, for full-time employees, paid parental leave.
