Job description

Role overview

Nova Scotia Health is seeking a permanent full-time Environmental Services Worker at Soldiers Memorial Hospital in the Western Zone. Reporting to the Assistant Manager, Facility Support Services, this position helps ensure a clean, safe, and functional setting for patients, families, staff, and visitors.

The role is a CUPE support position and is scheduled for 75 hours biweekly. The posting closes on 29-Jun-26. The location for this role is Victoria Vale, Nova Scotia, Canada, with work at Soldiers Memorial Hospital.

What you will do

You will be assigned to clean designated units, which may include patient rooms and shared/public spaces. Duties cover a range of environmental services tasks such as mopping, dusting, vacuuming furniture and floors, cleaning stairways, buffing, scrubbing, refinishing floors, moving and arranging furniture, and replacing curtains and drapes.

You will also be expected to carry out your work in line with the organization’s mission, vision, values, expected behaviours, leadership philosophy, and commitments to organizational health, population health, ethics, safety, quality, partnership, and inter-professional collaboration.

What we are looking for

Applicants should have completed Grade 12 or have an equivalent level of work experience. A strong commitment to safety, ethical conduct, and organizational health is important, along with the ability to handle confidential information appropriately.

The role may require travel to other sites, so access to a dependable vehicle is necessary. Equipment used in the job can include Taski spray buffers, burnishers, auto scrubbers, and shampooers. Ability in additional languages is considered an advantage, with French preferred.

Hours and compensation

This is a permanent full-time position with 75 hours worked biweekly. Pay is offered at $20.74 to $21.56 per hour.

Benefits and additional notes

Eligible successful candidates may receive health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance benefits, along with a defined benefit pension plan.

Only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted. This is a unionized support position, and preference is given to current bargaining unit employees for unionized roles. Applicants considering a change in union, bargaining unit, or employment status should clarify how seniority, benefits, and vacation entitlement or usage may be affected before accepting an offer.

Nova Scotia Health states that it is committed to a workplace free from discrimination and to a workforce that reflects the communities it serves. Qualified applicants who identify as Indigenous, Black/African Nova Scotian, persons of colour, foreign nationals/newcomers, persons with disabilities, and 2SLGBTQIA+ are encouraged to apply and self-identify.
