Role overview

Nova Scotia Health is hiring a permanent Environmental Services Worker to support the South Shore Regional Hospital in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. This hourly full-time support role sits within the Facility Support Services Environmental Services team and is part of the CUPE bargaining unit. The posting closes on 23-Jun-26.

What the role involves

Reporting to the Assistant Manager, Facility Support Services, the Environmental Services Worker helps maintain a clean, safe, and functional setting for patients, families, staff, and visitors.

The position focuses on cleaning assigned areas, including patient rooms and shared/public spaces. Core duties include mopping, dusting, vacuuming furniture, floors, and stairways, buffing, scrubbing and refinishing floors, moving and arranging furniture, and changing curtains and drapes.

The worker is also expected to support the organization’s mission, vision, values, expected behaviours, leadership philosophy, organizational health, population health, ethics, safety, quality, partnerships, and inter-professional collaboration through both service delivery and day-to-day communication.

Requirements

Applicants should have Grade 12 or equivalent experience in the workforce.

A strong commitment to safety, ethical conduct, and organizational health is essential, along with the ability to maintain confidentiality.

Travel to other locations may be needed, and access to a dependable vehicle is required.

The job may involve using equipment such as Taski spray buffers, burnishers, auto scrubbers, and shampooers.

Language skills beyond English are considered an asset, with French preferred.

Working hours

This is a permanent full-time position with 75 hours per biweekly pay period. Scheduled hours are 11pm to 7am.

Compensation and benefits

The pay range is $20.74 to $21.56 per hour.

Eligible hires may receive benefits including health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance, along with a defined benefit pension plan.
