About the Role
We seek an accomplished Enterprise Release Engineering Architect to lead and establish a comprehensive Release Management practice across the enterprise. This pivotal leadership position involves designing the release strategy, governance, standards, and tooling, alongside building and managing a skilled execution team. The goal is to transform release management into a reliable, automated, and risk-aware function that supports frequent, dependable, and business-aligned software deployment across diverse platforms, cloud environments, and engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and align the enterprise Release Management strategy with business and technology goals.
- Implement standardized release governance across all application portfolios.
- Create release policies, standards, controls, workflows, and approval processes.
- Formulate enterprise release calendars and planning structures.
- Integrate environments, DevSecOps pipelines, and project releases to ensure smooth, incident-free customer releases.
- Define KPIs, SLAs, maturity metrics, and champion continuous improvement efforts.
- Engage as a single point of contact for customers regarding Release Management, DevSecOps, and Environment Management.
- Design and establish the organizational framework for the Enterprise Release Management Office, including recruiting and developing teams of Release Managers and related roles.
- Develop operational procedures, role definitions, responsibilities, and RACI models.
- Create a scalable service model to support multiple business units and teams.
- Collaborate closely with Development, QA, Infrastructure, Security, Architecture, Change Management, and Operations stakeholders.
- Lead planning, coordination, and execution of enterprise-wide release events across applications and environments.
- Oversee release readiness assessments, governance meetings, deployment planning, rollback strategies, and production readiness.
- Drive post-release retrospectives for ongoing process improvement.
- Establish governance forums and executive reports, manage release risks, dependencies, compliance, and conflicts.
- Own release quality metrics and ensure operational stability post-deployment.
- Lead automation initiatives across CI/CD pipelines, promoting Infrastructure-as-Code, GitOps, feature flags, automated testing, and progressive deployment methods.
- Work collaboratively with diverse internal teams including Engineering Leadership, Product Management, Enterprise Architecture, Cloud and DevSecOps teams, Security, Quality Engineering, Service Management, and Business Leaders.
Required Experience
- Over 18 years’ experience in Enterprise IT with a minimum of 5 years in leadership of enterprise Release Management.
- Proven expertise in establishing Release Management capabilities from the ground up.
- Experience managing large-scale, multi-application release environments.
- Strong consulting acumen with executive-level communication and presence.
- Ability to present complex solutions to CXO-level stakeholders.
- Leadership of geographically dispersed engineering teams.
- Familiarity with Agile, DevOps, and traditional delivery methodologies.
- Experience in regulated sectors like Banking, Financial Services, or Insurance is highly advantageous.
Technical Proficiencies
- Extensive knowledge of Enterprise Release Management and DevSecOps practices.
- Expertise in CI/CD pipelines, Change and Environment Management, Configuration Management, and version control systems including Git.
- Hands-on experience with release automation and deployment orchestration.
- Proficient with Cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, OCI, and GCP, plus container technologies like Kubernetes.
- Understanding of feature flag usage, blue-green and canary deployments, rollback measures, ServiceNow for Change Management, Jira, Agile tools, and artifact repositories like Nexus or Artifactory.
- Familiarity with observability tools and Enterprise Architecture concepts.
