Job Responsibilities

  • Define the project scope independently, create preliminary investigation plans, and establish project specifications such as costs, timelines, and sample needs by analyzing client inputs and product construction data.
  • Travel to client sites as required to conduct or observe testing procedures.
  • Initiate and maintain communication with clients to promote and clarify the advantages of our services.
  • Follow up with clients to address inquiries and maintain relationships.
  • Discuss technical matters, explain certification procedures, communicate project expenses, negotiate deadlines, and define sample requirements with clients.
  • Resolve client concerns and provide technical guidance related to product inspections and follow-up services.
  • Develop test programs by reviewing documentation and examining samples against relevant standards.
  • Notify clients promptly if products do not meet standards or if project scopes or specifications change.
  • Coordinate laboratory activities including preparing technician instructions, scheduling reviews, and setting deadlines.
  • Manage administrative responsibilities associated with projects.
  • Serve as Project Handler and may act as Reviewer when assigned.
  • Keep clients updated on project status and test results regularly and prepare reports accordingly.
  • Develop Follow-Up Service Procedures and informational materials.
  • Incorporate continuous improvement methodologies into daily work.
  • Analyze engineering concerns related to Variation Notices and provide acceptability assessments.
  • Recommend and assist in developing new or revised UL requirements.
  • Create specialized testing methods and equipment.
  • Lead or participate in File Reviews.
  • Represent UL Solutions at industry events such as seminars and trade exhibitions.
  • Provide leadership as a Primary or Designated Engineer for certain product categories and supervise assigned staff.
  • Train office, field, and laboratory personnel, including entry-level engineers.
  • Offer technical support to laboratory and field teams.
  • Adhere to the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and maintain compliance with security protocols.
  • Undertake additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, Manufacturing Technology, or Physics from an accredited institution plus at least four years of directly relevant professional experience.
  • Strong familiarity with technical terminology within the relevant field.
  • Experience with conformity standards, particularly concerning fire door and fire curtain testing and certification.
  • Proven capacity to apply project management concepts specific to this discipline.
