Energy and Environment Analyst

Role Overview

The Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) is seeking an Energy and Environment Analyst to join its Energy Modeling Program based in Somerville, Massachusetts. This is a permanent role, available full or part-time (20-40 hours per week), with a hybrid work schedule requiring at least one day per week in-office. The annual salary ranges from $57300 to $71600, prorated for part-time work, depending on qualifications. The start date is as soon as possible with ordinary notice periods accommodated; applications close on August 31, 2026.

About SEI and the Program

SEI is a globally focused research organization dedicated to connecting science and policy for sustainable development, working on energy, economic, and environmental modeling and policy at multiple levels. The Energy Modeling Program develops and maintains widely used modeling platforms such as LEAP and NEMO, which support climate and energy decision-making worldwide, especially in low and middle-income countries.

Responsibilities

• Gathering and organizing data for model development, including researching, sourcing, and formatting datasets.
• Performing statistical analyses such as descriptive statistics and regressions to generate model inputs.
• Providing support to LEAP and NEMO users through responding to inquiries, managing license requests, creating instructional content, and refining training materials.
• Managing and coordinating stakeholder communications and meetings, including scheduling and logistical support.
• Developing materials for presentations and contributing to technical reports through drafting content, graphics, and referencing.
• Assisting in training sessions for modeling tools and supporting program administrative tasks including meetings and reporting.

Candidate Profile and Requirements

The ideal candidate is motivated by sustainability challenges and comfortable working collaboratively in a tight-knit team while leading specific tasks. Required qualifications include:

• A bachelor's degree or higher in natural sciences, engineering, computer science, economics, mathematics, statistics, or a related field.
• Proven quantitative skills with experience in data collection and analysis equivalent to at least three semester-length courses or related work experience.
• Proficiency in computer programming geared towards data analysis, modeling, or web development.
• Fluent English communication skills, both written and spoken, to work closely with colleagues, produce technical documentation, and engage stakeholders.
• Authorization to work in the United States.

Preferred qualifications include additional language skills, familiarity with energy and environmental modeling software (e.g., LEAP, NEMO, TIMES/MARKAL, OSeMOSYS, MESSAGE), experience in instructional roles or customer service.
