About the role

Bank of New Zealand is looking for an Employee Relations Partner to join its People & Culture team in Auckland. This role focuses on providing trusted, specialist guidance to people leaders while managing day-to-day employee relations work and related people initiatives that help maintain strong employee performance.

You will work in a fast-moving, collaborative environment where flexibility, wellbeing, learning, and career growth are supported. The role is based in Auckland and follows a hybrid setup, with at least three days each week in the office, including anchor days, while the remaining days can be worked flexibly.

The position sits within a business-aligned people partnering team, working alongside HR generalists and other Employee Relations Partners to improve service delivery and help ensure consistent, fair outcomes across the organisation.

Key areas of work

  • Advising on performance management matters
  • Handling disciplinary processes
  • Supporting organisational restructure and change activity
  • Managing personal grievance matters, including mediation
  • Helping ensure employment practices align with current and upcoming legislation
  • Addressing bullying and harassment concerns
  • Managing absenteeism cases, including medical incapacity situations

What will help you succeed

  • Extensive experience in a senior employee relations position with strong practical knowledge of ER issues
  • Solid understanding of employment law, along with the ability to interpret policies and turn them into sound recommendations
  • Well-developed facilitation, negotiation, and mediation capabilities
  • A tertiary qualification relevant to the role, ideally in Law, is preferred but not mandatory
  • Comfort with technology and a genuine interest in AI-enabled ways of working
  • Strong relationship-building ability and confidence engaging with a range of stakeholders
  • Resilience, adaptability, and the ability to manage several priorities and relationships in a complex setting
