Role overview
National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. (NRSS) is hiring a safety-focused Employee In Charge in Macon, Georgia. This position plays an important part in protecting work performed along railroad rights-of-way by making sure on-track activities are managed safely.
What this role does
The EIC supports on-track safety for freight railroads, transit systems, state departments of transportation, and other rail-industry partners. The role involves coordinating worksite safety, communicating with train crews and dispatchers, and ensuring railroad work is carried out under required safety rules.
Key duties
In this position, you will help establish and maintain safe work zones, prepare field documentation, brief crews before track access, and oversee compliance with railroad, state, and federal safety standards.
Tools and work setting
This job requires comfort using tablets, smartphones, and other communication tools to help coordinate train movements and safety activities. Work is performed outdoors in a field environment near active tracks. Travel is expected to account for about 50% to 85% of the time, and assignments may require extended travel lasting for months.
Compensation and benefits
Pay is offered at $25 to $37 per hour, depending on experience. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, along with short-term and long-term disability coverage. The package also includes paid vacation, paid holidays, and a 401(k) retirement plan.
Additional requirements and conditions
Candidates must be able to complete federal, client, and/or company-specific training.
