Job description

About the team

Foodstuffs South Island’s Merchandise team works in a fast-moving environment where decisions about product range, pricing, promotions, and shelf presentation directly shape the customer experience. The team collaborates closely with suppliers, uses data to guide decisions, and focuses on delivering stronger value and a better shopping experience for customers.

The team is known for being ambitious, clear, accountable, and action-oriented, with a culture described as hardworking but light-hearted. With strong momentum heading into the second half of 2026, they are looking for someone who is excited to help drive growth and improvement.

About the role

The Emerging Supplier Manager will take full ownership of the Emerging Supplier Programme for Foodstuffs South Island. This newly created position is responsible for designing, launching, and running the programme from start to finish, helping new suppliers enter and establish themselves within the network.

You will also connect with the national Emerging Supplier Programme to align processes, exchange insights, and strengthen the local approach so the programme creates meaningful impact. Acting as the main contact for emerging suppliers, you will work directly with them early in their journey by providing direction, coaching, and clear expectations that support long-term growth.

The role is based in Christchurch. Relocation support may be considered for the right candidate.

Key accountabilities

  • Lead the design, delivery, and ongoing management of the Emerging Supplier Programme for Foodstuffs South Island.
  • Develop and keep up-to-date practical guides, tools, and resources that help suppliers onboard and progress successfully.
  • Partner with Category Managers to identify, develop, and advance opportunities for emerging suppliers.
  • Represent the programme at national forums and events to strengthen supplier relationships and build a healthy pipeline of future suppliers.

About you

You will understand how Foodstuffs operates and how products move from concept through to shelf. You should be comfortable coaching others, bringing stakeholders along with you, and keeping initiatives moving in the right direction.

The ideal candidate will bring:

  • Experience working in FMCG or a similar commercial setting.
  • Strong influencing ability and confidence working through differing viewpoints to achieve outcomes.
  • Clear, assured communication skills, with the ability to turn complex information into practical next steps.
  • Strong planning and organisational ability, with the discipline to manage several priorities at once.
  • Commercial judgement and an understanding of the trade-offs involved in range, pricing, and value decisions.

Application notes

Applicants who do not meet every requirement are still encouraged to apply if they feel they have the capability and drive to succeed in the role.

Applications close at 11:59pm on Sunday 5 July 2026 and must be submitted through the company careers site. For questions about the role or help with submitting an application, contact careers@foodstuffs-si.co.nz.
