Job description

Position Overview

An opportunity is available for a knowledgeable EHS Specialist to join a regulated manufacturing site in Ireland on a 12-month contract basis. The role involves ensuring adherence to Environmental, Health & Safety requirements within a medical device manufacturing context. Collaborating with operational, engineering, quality, and leadership groups, the Specialist will foster a culture of safety and contribute to continuous operational enhancements.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage daily EHS operations across the site
  • Perform and evaluate risk assessments, establishing practical control measures
  • Lead or assist with incident investigations, Root Cause Analysis, and oversee CAPA processes
  • Support Process Safety Management initiatives within production activities
  • Engage in HAZOP studies and drive risk mitigation efforts
  • Conduct site inspections, audits, and safety walkthroughs
  • Ensure compliance with internal protocols, relevant Irish legislation, and EHS standards
  • Oversee contractor safety management alongside Permit-to-Work and high-risk job oversight
  • Provide EHS training aimed at reinforcing a positive safety mindset
  • Assist in ISO system compliance, corrective action tracking, and reporting
  • Monitor EHS performance metrics and contribute to reporting obligations
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams including Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, and Quality

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Degree or diploma in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, Science, or related field
  • Relevant EHS experience within Medical Device, Pharmaceutical, Diagnostics, Chemical, or other regulated manufacturing settings
  • Demonstrated expertise conducting HAZOP studies and supporting Process Safety Management
  • Proficiency in risk assessments, incident investigations, CAPA management, contractor oversight, Permit-to-Work systems, and safety audits/inspections
  • Familiarity with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement capabilities
  • Capable of working autonomously and collaboratively within teams

Desirable Experience

  • Experience within GMP-regulated manufacturing
  • Exposure to HAZID, LOPA, PSSR, MOC, ATEX, COMAH, or SEVESO frameworks
  • Background in environmental compliance and sustainability programs
  • Knowledge of occupational health or industrial hygiene

Additional Information

  • Must have actively participated in or led HAZOP studies
  • Applicants must hold valid working rights in Ireland (e.g., Stamp 4, Stamp 1G, EU citizenship, or comparable unrestricted authorization)
  • Onsite presence in Ireland is mandatory
