About the Role

Join Sourcebooks as an Editorial Assistant on our swiftly expanding Adult Romance team. Collaborate closely with seasoned acquiring editors to shepherd captivating romance novels from acquisition to publication, gaining hands-on experience at every editorial stage. Bloom Books, our dynamic imprint, offers an author-first philosophy that crafts unforgettable novels for devoted readers, especially lovers of all romance subgenres, including spicy romance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with acquiring editors to oversee romance titles across the publishing pipeline.
  • Coordinate cross-functional projects involving editorial, design, production, marketing, publicity, sales, and external partners.
  • Conduct market research on trends, bestselling authors, reader preferences, and competing titles to inform editorial choices.
  • Compose and revise catalog descriptions, jacket copy, metadata, launch materials, and other editorial and marketing content.
  • Contribute to the strategic market positioning of new books through packaging, titling, category selection, and reader-focused campaigns.
  • Maintain editorial calendars, databases, and comprehensive project documentation.
  • Monitor sales data and generate regular performance reports.
  • Provide both editorial and administrative support, including manuscript preparation, managing correspondence, shipping logistics, and editorial corrections.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Between 1 to 2 years of experience in publishing, including internships, freelance, or editorial roles.
  • Motivated self-starter eager to develop an editorial career, with aspirations to manage your own romance author list.
  • Comfortable presenting to groups and building strong partnerships internally and externally.
  • Positive, collaborative attitude encouraging teamwork and adaptability.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with an ability to manage multiple short- and long-term projects efficiently.
  • Keen eye for grammar detail and editorial accuracy.
  • Familiarity with book production workflows from concept to publication is a plus.
  • Passion for romance literature is essential; up-to-date knowledge of authors, tropes, trends, and community dynamics is required.

Additional Information

This position is an hourly, non-exempt role with pay ranging from $22 to $25 per hour, dependent on experience, location, training, and education. The job location offers flexibility: hybrid or fully remote in New York or Naperville, Illinois, or fully remote in specified states including Arizona, Connecticut, Illinois, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington D.C., and Wisconsin.
