Role Summary

The Edge Banding Machine Operator will be responsible for flawlessly applying edge banding on all cabinetry components using an automatic, through-feed edge banding machine. This role demands precision and consistent quality, especially as the edge is the first tactile experience for clients in luxury furniture.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up, operate, and manage an automatic edge banding machine for various edge tapes including PVC, ABS, acrylic, veneer, and 3D/softform, ranging from 0.4mm to 3mm thickness.
• Prepare and program the machine by loading appropriate edge materials and adjusting parameters such as speed, temperature, glue, pressure rollers, trimming, and buffing to match the job specifications.
• Receive and inspect cut panels from beam saw or CNC machines, verify sizes, and load them correctly to maintain workflow and prevent damage.
• Perform strict quality control checks to detect issues like glue voids, edge overhang, chipping, burn marks, and color inconsistencies while ensuring corners and trimming align with luxury standards.
• Maintain glue pot levels, clean the hot-melt glue system, and carry out daily cleaning and maintenance of feed chains, trimming blades, and buffing components; promptly report mechanical faults.
• Optimize use of edge tape to reduce material waste and avoid rework.
• Keep detailed production records including output volumes, material usage, and defect logs to support continuous process improvements.
• Adhere to all safety protocols, wear personal protective equipment, and maintain a clean, organized workplace consistent with 5S standards.
• Collaborate with teams handling beam saw, CNC, and assembly to meet daily production goals.

Candidate Requirements

• A minimum of 2 years’ experience operating automatic edge banding machines in furniture, kitchen, or wardrobe manufacturing settings; familiarity with Homag, Biesse, or SCM equipment is a bonus.
• Competency in reading cutting lists and technical diagrams; in-depth understanding of different edge materials and glue types.
• Exceptional attention to detail ensuring flawless seams, no glue residue, and precise color matching expected in luxury manufacturing.
• Ability to diagnose and resolve common machine issues such as glue starvation, misalignment, and trimming errors.
• Physically capable of lifting panels up to 20kg and standing for complete shifts.
• Knowledgeable about workshop safety standards and machine guarding requirements.

Desirable Skills

• Experience with pre-milling, corner rounding, and use of PUR glue systems.
• Working knowledge of high-gloss acrylic and veneer edge banding.
• Basic mechanical skills to facilitate minor machine adjustments.
