Job description
Overview
Multiverse Construction Ltd. is hiring a drywall installer and finisher for work at physical job sites in Calgary, Alberta. This is an on-site role only; remote work is not available.
Language Requirement
English is required for this position.
Education
A secondary school graduation certificate is required.
Experience
The role calls for 1 year to less than 2 years of related experience.
Work Environment
Work may take place at heights and in dusty conditions. The position covers commercial and residential projects, and may involve travel to various locations.
Key Duties
The successful candidate will carry out drywall installation and finishing work, including preparing and measuring surfaces, installing sheets, finishing joints, and supporting safe access and work platform setup.
- Interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to understand job requirements.
- Train and guide apprentices as needed.
- Apply multiple coats of compound, then sand seams and joints for a smooth finish.
- Apply and finish plaster coats, including leveling and smoothing surfaces.
- Clean and prep surfaces before installation or finishing work.
- Allow freshly plastered surfaces to cure properly.
- Cut and install metal corner beads to protect outside corners.
- Fill holes, cracks, nail marks, and joints using joint compound with a trowel and broad knife.
- Measure, cut, fit, and install drywall panels.
- Blend plaster ingredients to the correct consistency.
- Set sheets in place and fasten them to metal or wooden studs or joists.
- Remove excess compound and let each coat dry.
- Use a taping machine to cover joints and embed tape into compound.
- Work on scaffolding, swing stages, or other elevated work areas.
- Build and install scaffolding, falsework, and related working platforms.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
- Bending, crouching, and kneeling are regular parts of the work.
- Good hand-eye coordination is important.
- The job is physically demanding.
- Tasks are repetitive.
- Long periods of standing are required.
- Frequent walking is involved.
- Work may need to continue under pressure.
Weight Handling
Ability to handle loads of up to 23 kg (50 lbs) is required.
