Overview
The Drilling Assistant - Offsider plays a vital supportive role within the drilling team, assisting in daily rig operations with a strong emphasis on safety and efficiency. Working alongside toolpushers, rig supervisors, and the drill crew, the assistant helps manage equipment handling, performs basic maintenance, and gathers important drilling data. This position suits individuals eager to build a practical foundation in drilling through active on-site engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the drilling crew by assisting with routine rig tasks such as mud preparation, casing handling, and managing equipment hoisting operations
- Participate actively in safety measures including attending pre-shift safety briefings and promptly reporting any hazards or incidents
- Monitor the condition of equipment and inform supervisors about necessary maintenance
- Collect, log, and maintain accurate drilling data, measurements, and inventory counts for materials used
- Maintain cleanliness and organization on the rig floor and designated work areas
- Assist in the logistics of loading, unloading, and transporting supplies and equipment on the rig site
- Coordinate closely with toolpushers and supervisors to ensure smooth and timely completion of assigned tasks
- Adhere strictly to standard operating procedures and comply with all regulatory safety requirements
Required Qualifications
- 2 to 5 years experience in drilling operations or a related discipline
- Basic knowledge of drilling rigs, equipment functionality, and safety protocols
- Valid driver’s license and readiness to work under a rotating shift schedule
- Physical fitness adequate to manage strenuous work in demanding outdoor conditions
- Effective communication skills with the ability to follow detailed instructions
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous roles as roustabout, roughneck, or offsider on drilling sites
- Familiarity with mud systems, casing processes, drilling fluids, and basic rig tools
- Safety certifications such as first aid or process safety training are advantageous
