Role Overview
The Drafter I position entails gathering information from multiple sources such as verbal directions, sketches, engineering specs, and drawings, then integrating these into detailed working plans and layouts. The role requires adherence to company standards and procedures to produce consistent, high-quality drawings.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret notes, sketches, verbal guidance, and engineering specifications to create detailed working plans and layouts.
- Review designs to resolve any incomplete details.
- Integrate preliminary and contributing data to finalize designs.
- Create specifications, designs, and drawings applying engineering principles and company standards.
- Follow best practices and organizational policies in product design, layout, and documentation, including making models, drawings, assemblies, and bills of materials with CAD and other software tools.
- Adhere strictly to CAD standards regarding model and drawing creation, file management, and revision control to minimize errors.
- Verify dimensions, bill of materials, materials used, quantities, processing details, and compliance with best practices.
- Make logical decisions aimed at meeting labor and cost budgets as well as deadlines.
- Provide project scheduling, cost analysis, technical info, and status updates to internal teams and external suppliers.
- Resolve mechanical and fabrication issues concerning designed or purchased components.
- Ensure design changes are documented and processed through engineering change procedures promptly.
- Regularly communicate progress and feedback to supervisors and project teams.
- Contribute actively to developing drafting automation tools.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of conveying complex technical information.
- Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and G Suite productivity tools.
- Experienced user of AutoCAD 2018 and/or Autodesk Inventor 2018 or later versions.
- Effective problem-solving abilities.
- Capacity to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a dynamic environment.
- Aptitude for building and maintaining positive working relationships.
- Ability to complete standard projects with some technical assistance.
- Basic knowledge of bolted storage tanks and aluminum geodesic domes is beneficial.
Qualifications
- Associate's degree or relevant technical certification preferred.
- Between 1 to 2 years of applicable drafting experience required.
Physical Demands
The role involves occasional standing, walking, sitting, and use of hands for task performance.
