Role Overview

You will be responsible for moving donation items safely and efficiently, supporting route operations, and helping keep collection sites and vehicles in good condition. The job involves driving, loading, sorting, site upkeep, and supporting the wider operations team whenever needed.

Schedule and Availability

This is a full-time Monday-to-Friday role with start times beginning at 6:15 AM. Shifts may change depending on operational requirements. Flexibility is required for weekends, weekdays, holidays, and longer shifts when necessary.

Compensation

The position pays $22.00 per hour.

Key Duties

• Operate collection trucks safely and finish assigned routes on schedule.
• Load, sort, and secure donated items while following transport and safety procedures.
• Inspect the vehicle each day, report maintenance concerns, and keep the truck clean and ready for service.
• Maintain bin locations by removing waste and checking site conditions.
• Complete home pickups, store drop-offs, and occasional supply runs as assigned.
• Follow Ministry of Transportation rules, fatigue management standards, and company driving policies.
• Wear required PPE and promptly report hazards, incidents, and near misses.
• Record driving hours and duty status accurately in the electronic logging system.
• Complete inspection forms, safety checklists, and route paperwork carefully.
• Provide courteous service to donors, partners, and members of the public.
• Keep Dispatch informed about delays, incidents, and route-related issues.
• Use scanning tools and route technology to support efficient operations.
• Coordinate with supervisors on bin moves, maintenance needs, and field updates.

Required Qualifications

• At least 3 years of experience operating 3–5-ton trucks measuring 18–24 feet.
• Must be 25 years of age or older due to insurance requirements.
• Valid G-class driver’s licence with a strong and clean driving history.
• Ability to commute reliably and handle lifting, loading, and moving items safely.
• Comfort using scanning devices and route-navigation tools.
• High school diploma or an equivalent credential.
• Reliable mobile internet access for work-related apps and software.

Additional Strengths

• Basic mechanical knowledge for minor troubleshooting on the road.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to stay professional in challenging situations.
• Good time management and an understanding of efficient route planning.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, twist, lift, push, and pull for most of the shift.
• Capability to lift up to 50 lbs and move rolling containers weighing up to 500 lbs.
• Comfort with extended driving, sustained alertness, and safe work in harsh weather conditions.
• Exposure to dust, dirt, insects, waste, and occasional rodents at collection sites.
• Work may involve noisy environments and changing indoor and outdoor temperatures.
• Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Frequent interaction with donors, customers, vendors, and coworkers.
• Ability to remain standing for long periods during loading, unloading, and site service.

Hiring Process
