Role overview
First Student is hiring for an on-site Dispatcher position in Jackson, Mississippi. This opportunity is centered on supporting safe, dependable, and efficient student transportation while helping the local community.
In this role, you will be a key point of contact for route coordination, driver support, and customer communication. The position is closely tied to safety, service quality, and keeping daily transportation running smoothly.
What you’ll do
- Coordinate bus routes and daily schedule coverage.
- Support, guide, and coach drivers and monitors on the front line.
- Manage a high volume of phone calls and radio communication.
- Receive scheduling issues and driver concerns, then escalate them to the Operations Supervisor or Contract Manager.
- Act as the main communication link for a major contracted customer.
- May assist with charter bookings, billing tasks, or driver payroll.
- Help resolve pickup and drop-off issues.
- Step in as a backup driver when needed or take on miscellaneous clerical work.
- Complete assigned special projects.
- Support day-to-day operational supervision.
Experience and qualifications
The role calls for 3 to 5 years of experience. A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Candidates should be comfortable with radio dispatch equipment, have strong communication and customer service skills, and be able to perform well under deadlines and time pressure. Prior experience in terminal operations, dispatch, or driving is preferred. Computer proficiency is also needed.
