Job Overview
The Director of Routing & Logistics is tasked with enhancing the profitability of the Services & Solutions division by leading the routing and logistics operations. This leadership role directs a team focused on optimizing logistical routing to ensure timely service delivery to customers in a cost-efficient way.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise all routing activities using Omnitracs technology across approximately 400 routes, managing around 1,700 services daily and 8,500 weekly.
- Lead and develop a team of logistics professionals, upholding core values such as customer service, safety and compliance, environmental commitment, and continuous improvement.
- Track daily performance via key performance indicators, emphasizing enhancements in order density and miles per stop efficiency.
- Maximize on-time service delivery while minimizing missed appointments through innovative route planning and resource allocation.
- Collaborate with IT and Operations to deploy and optimize routing and ERP software systems.
- Create and monitor metrics that effectively reflect productivity, service quality, and cost management to continuously improve distribution performance.
- Work alongside Field Operations leadership to identify opportunities for optimizing distribution practices and regional performance.
- Analyze routing components such as customer time windows, resource utilization, route efficiency, fill rates, and overtime to recommend improvements and eliminate inefficiencies.
- Enhance departmental initiatives by streamlining processes and fostering cross-functional communication.
- Champion ongoing operational improvements by leveraging technology and best practices for automated route planning and execution.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Expertise in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data to provide insights for strategic business planning.
- Advanced understanding of routing methodologies and routing software, with preferred experience in Omnitracs.
- Proficient advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and data mining techniques.
- Strong analytical abilities and business acumen, including financial knowledge.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Self-driven with a strong bias towards action and leadership capability to motivate teams to high performance.
Educational and Professional Background
- Proven leadership experience in routing and logistics, familiar with transportation routing systems, ideally Omnitracs.
- Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain management, operations management, or related fields is required; a graduate degree is advantageous.
- Experience with data mining is considered beneficial.
Working Conditions
- Office-based environment with typical conditions.
- Occasional light physical activity such as lifting and bending.
- Extended periods of sitting.
- Requires moderate travel, approximately up to 25% of the time.
