AutoTrader.ca is part of a Canadian digital automotive group focused on helping people buy, sell, and finance vehicles with greater confidence. Its brands include AutoTrader.ca, AutoSync, Dealertrack Canada, and CMS. AutoTrader.ca is the country’s largest automotive marketplace, attracting more than 25 million visits each month. Role Overview
The Director of Marketing Strategy will lead consumer marketing growth in Canada. This position carries ownership of a multi-million Canadian dollar budget and full accountability for marketing performance. It is a strategy-first leadership role with direct commercial impact, where you will decide how to allocate investment, when to reduce spend, and how to improve results across the full funnel.
You will guide specialist teams that execute campaigns, while you set the direction, make prioritization decisions, and manage the trade-offs. The role also involves leading a team, developing people, and collaborating within a matrixed organization to align marketing, product, analytics, and other stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a multi-million CAD consumer marketing budget for the Canadian market.
- Own business outcomes from marketing, including leads, sessions, brand contribution, and related performance measures.
- Build and direct end-to-end marketing strategy, balancing channel mix, immediate demand generation, and long-term brand investment.
- Apply strong analytical discipline by working directly with data, identifying issues early, partnering with analytics teams, and turning findings into action.
- Oversee brand and content marketing work, including creative briefing, media planning inputs, and measurement of impact.
- Guide performance marketing through a centralized team by setting priorities, reallocating spend, and ensuring accountability for results.
- Run monthly performance reviews with senior leadership, highlighting risks, trade-offs, and strategic choices.
- Lead, coach, and grow a high-performing team.
Requirements
- At least 12 years of experience in marketing strategy or growth strategy.
- Demonstrated ownership of budgets and commercial outcomes, with a history of driving execution rather than only creating plans.
- Experience directing performance marketing teams or agencies and holding them accountable for results.
- Background managing brand spend across channels such as television, out-of-home, and audio, with measurable impact.
- Strong analytical capability and comfort with breaking down performance to identify root causes.
- Proven experience leading teams and developing talent.
- Ability to present confidently to senior non-marketing leaders and discuss business trade-offs.
Benefits
- Gym discounts.
- Employee and Family Assistance Program.
- Virtual wellness events.
- Budget for conferences and training.
- Ongoing internal training programs.
- Financial planning support with 3% pension matching.
- Competitive compensation.
- Annual bonus structure.
