Role Overview

The Director of Learning & Talent Development – Operational Excellence is responsible for spearheading company-wide talent development efforts. This entails managing the full lifecycle of learning initiatives—from creation and deployment to evaluation—ensuring they are scalable, budget-conscious, aligned with business priorities, and practical. Acting as a senior learning leader, the Director provides strategic input on learning approaches, instructional design, and quality standards, while enforcing governance and consistency throughout the learning portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage the enterprise operating model for Learning & Talent Development, aligning initiatives with business needs through disciplined intake, planning, prioritization, and resource allocation.
  • Set and uphold company-wide standards, workflows, and quality benchmarks to guarantee instructional quality and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Make strategic decisions on project sequencing and resource distribution to optimize business impact.
  • Advise on learning strategy, design, and delivery for significant corporate initiatives to enhance overall effectiveness.
  • Manage learning development and delivery operations to ensure efficient content creation, facilitator preparedness, and consistent delivery across formats such as instructor-led, virtual, hybrid, and self-paced.
  • Coordinate learning deployment logistics including communications, scheduling, stakeholder engagement, and change readiness to ensure smooth rollouts at scale.
  • Drive continuous operational improvements throughout the learning lifecycle, maintaining accountability and ensuring measurable success.
  • Implement measurement and reporting frameworks utilizing learning technologies, learner feedback, operational data, and business metrics to monitor and optimize learning outcomes.
  • Lead evaluation and enhancement of learning technologies including LMS platforms, virtual tools, AI-driven solutions, and analytics to improve efficiency and learner experiences.
  • Champion ongoing process improvements leveraging data insights and innovation to strengthen organizational capabilities and business results.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a skilled Learning & Talent Development team, promoting a culture centered on accountability, collaboration, innovation, and high standards.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Possess 10 to 12+ years of advancing experience in Learning & Talent Development with a minimum of 7 years in senior leadership overseeing learning organizations, instructional design, delivery, or operations in complex, growth-focused settings.
  • Proven expertise managing enterprise-wide learning portfolios, effectively connecting strategy to scalable solutions and successfully handling resources, budgets, and vendor relationships.
  • Strong background in instructional design, adult education theory, curriculum development, and blended learning techniques, with the capacity to elevate quality across various delivery methods.
  • Track record of building and nurturing high-caliber learning teams emphasizing collaboration, accountability, and continuous enhancement.
  • Excellent executive communication skills with experience influencing senior stakeholders and navigating organizational complexities for cross-functional alignment.
  • Strategic thinker with sound business acumen, capable of linking organizational objectives to learning outcomes and operational excellence.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing, distribution, sales, logistics, retail, technology, or similar operationally complex industries and understanding of frontline and corporate workforce dynamics.
  • Proficiency in enterprise learning technologies such as LMS platforms (like Cornerstone or Oracle), CRM systems (Salesforce or equivalent), learning analytics tools, and other modern learning technologies that boost performance metrics.
