Overview
This role offers a leadership position to drive business development strategies within the aerospace and defense sectors. The Director will spearhead growth initiatives by leveraging market insights, engaging with customers, and directing capture efforts that align with long-term objectives.
You will form strong partnerships with key stakeholders, collaborate closely with technical and international teams, and lead campaigns to secure new contracts and programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform detailed market analyses to discover new business avenues involving Department of Defense entities, prime contractors, resellers, and platform partners.
- Design and implement campaign and capture strategies that enhance the chances of winning programs.
- Manage the entire business development lifecycle including opportunity identification, qualification, pursuit strategy, and execution.
- Organize and oversee proposal activities in coordination with engineering, technical, and capture teams.
- Align efforts with international business units and other business development groups to optimize resource use and customer interactions.
- Regularly present updates on campaign progress including strategy, timelines, funding, opportunity analysis, and success outlook.
- Develop and maintain robust relationships across customers, government agencies, industry partners, and leadership levels.
- Engage stakeholders at multiple organizational tiers from operational teams to executive leaders.
- Participate in trade shows, conferences, and industry events to increase visibility and identify potential prospects.
- Utilize CRM and relationship management systems to monitor and report on business development activity and customer engagement.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree is required.
- Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in aerospace systems marketing, defense acquisition, or related business development.
- In-depth understanding of DoD acquisition processes and contracting.
- Demonstrated success in developing capture plans, managing complex proposals, and supporting the full capture cycle.
- Exceptional relationship management skills, trusted by government, industry, and internal teams.
- Excellent communication proficiency, both written and verbal, capable of articulating strategies clearly and persuasively.
- Proven ability to work autonomously in a remote setting while effectively collaborating with distributed teams.
- Experience working alongside technical, engineering, and capture professionals during the business development process.
- Willingness and ability to frequently travel domestically and internationally for customer meetings, company visits, and conferences.
- Active U.S. Secret Clearance is mandatory.
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of airborne radar systems, operating modes, and relevant technologies.
- Understanding of ITAR regulations, export controls, and international defense sales procedures.
- Familiarity with information assurance, anti-tamper protocols, and their implications on program management.
- Experience in sustainment business models such as Performance Based Logistics (PBL).
- Background with DoD contracting vehicles like IDIQ agreements.
- Awareness of government procurement and defense technology program environments.
