Job description

About the role

We are looking for a Design Engineer focused on 3D medical implant solutions, including patient-specific implants, surgical guides, and anatomical models. The role works across clinical design, modelling, documentation, and coordination with manufacturing teams to turn patient imaging data into accurate, manufacturable medical products.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop patient-specific implants, surgical guides, and anatomical models using patient CT, MRI, and DICOM data.
  • Carry out 3D segmentation, anatomical reconstruction, and model creation with specialised medical CAD tools.
  • Design customised solutions for cranio-maxillofacial, orthopedic, trauma, and reconstructive procedures.
  • Convert clinical needs into precise implant designs that can be produced reliably.
  • Work closely with surgeons, clinical application engineers, and other internal teams to capture case-specific requirements.
  • Refine and improve designs based on surgeon input and clinical review until final sign-off.
  • Ensure designs meet anatomical fit, surgical intent, and manufacturing constraints.
  • Prepare CAD files, engineering drawings, and technical records for production.
  • Coordinate with manufacturing and 3D printing teams to support smooth execution of approved cases.
  • Check geometry, fitment, fixation approach, and screw paths before manufacturing begins.
  • Assist with prototype development, design checks, and validation work.
  • Keep complete case documentation, revision trails, and design records.
  • Follow company SOPs, quality requirements, and relevant medical device regulations.
  • Handle several patient-specific cases at the same time while meeting deadlines and quality expectations.
  • Stay current with developments in medical 3D printing, CAD tools, biomaterials, and patient-specific implant workflows.
  • Take part in design reviews, technical discussions, improvement initiatives, and innovation projects.
  • Provide technical support during production, quality inspection, and post-design implementation.
  • Protect patient confidentiality and comply with all data privacy and regulatory obligations.

Requirements

  • B.Tech / B.E. in Biomedical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Hands-on understanding of implant design, medical 3D printing, anatomical modelling, and medical device workflows.
  • Ability to interpret CT, MRI, and DICOM data for design work.
  • Experience or capability in 3D modelling, CAD-based design, and technical documentation.
  • Strong grasp of surgical planning, fitment validation, and manufacturability considerations.
  • Comfort working with surgeons and cross-functional teams on case-specific requirements.
  • Attention to detail, documentation discipline, and adherence to quality/regulatory standards.
