Position Overview
The Care Quality Commission is seeking an experienced leader for a secondment opportunity as Deputy Director – Turnaround. This full-time, 12-month position is pivotal to achieving the organisation’s improvement and recovery goals. While homebased, this role requires travel as needed to oversee and deliver high-impact interventions in priority areas.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Spearhead significant organisational renewal initiatives, working collaboratively across departments to focus on and deliver top-priority improvements.
- Partner with directors and senior leaders to develop and execute actionable improvement plans, while actively managing risks and ensuring measurable progress.
- Design, implement, and oversee practical and impactful turnaround plans, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and sustainable organisational change.
- Lead multidisciplinary teams to encourage robust governance, clear reporting, and accountability, instilling confidence at executive levels.
- Identify, monitor, and mitigate risks and dependencies; escalate unresolved issues where necessary.
- Deliver comprehensive updates and analysis for the Executive Team, Board, and governance bodies, reporting on progress and risk areas.
- Support a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and performance-driven outcomes throughout the organisation.

- Demonstrated leadership in driving complex change, recovery, or improvement initiatives in large, multifaceted organisations.
- Exceptional influence and relationship management skills, including the ability to work with and secure buy-in from senior executives and diverse stakeholders.
- Proficiency in establishing sophisticated governance, performance management, and risk assurance frameworks.
- Expertise in designing and executing organisational improvement interventions and managing ambiguity in a changing environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication, with experience preparing high-quality reports for senior audiences.

Remuneration and Benefits
- Annual salary: £75,183 (Grade E3).
- Full-time, 37 hours per week.
- Annual leave beginning at 27 days, increasing with years of service, plus bank holidays.
