We support project builders, commercial tradespeople, and the housing sector through our extensive network, including stores, trade centers, frame and truss sites, and online platforms. Our mission is to inspire people to have a red hot go by fostering a collaborative and dynamic workplace culture.

Role Overview

As a Department Manager, you will oversee the daily operations, sales, and significant stock management within your department. Working closely with other department managers and reporting to the Assistant Site Manager and Site Manager, you will lead and motivate a team of 20+ members to deliver an excellent customer experience while maintaining a safe and efficient workplace. This role involves strategic planning, rostering, merchandising excellence, customer service monitoring, and stock accuracy to ensure your department offers the widest range and best prices.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of 20+ to ensure a safe, engaged, and productive working environment, including performing duty manager roles for store opening and closing on weekdays and weekends.
  • Develop team capabilities in customer experience and safety culture by fostering engagement, managing performance, and recognizing achievements.
  • Oversee rostering and strategic department planning to fulfill service promises and drive sales results through merchandising and key performance metric analysis.
  • Respond to customer feedback to optimize the overall customer journey.
  • Maintain stock precision, including stock adjustments, replenishment discipline, and loss prevention strategies.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership qualities and the ability to influence multiple stakeholders. Experience leading sizeable retail or customer-focused teams with attention to safety and wellbeing practices is preferred. You should be adept at managing various responsibilities, understanding and exceeding KPIs, and fostering a positive work environment.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Proven ability to lead and inspire a large team to provide exceptional customer experiences through coaching and team collaboration.
  • Prior leadership experience in retail or a similar high-volume customer service organization.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety by role-modeling and ensuring compliance with safety policies and procedures.
  • Experience handling store opening and closing responsibilities while maintaining smooth business operations on weekdays and weekends.
  • Strong skills in team management including setting expectations, conducting performance discussions, and providing recognition.
  • Expertise in rostering, service planning, merchandising, sales performance, stock accuracy, and loss prevention.

Additional Information

  • This position requires working at least one weekend out of every three and some public holiday shifts.
  • Applicants must be aged 15 or older.
  • Background checks, including police, employment, medical, and qualification verifications, may be conducted prior to hiring.
  • Bunnings embraces diversity and inclusion, welcoming candidates from varied backgrounds and abilities, with a strong encouragement for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to apply.
  • There is a comprehensive team benefits program, including discounts across multiple Wesfarmers brands, access to a OnePass membership, 12 weeks paid parental leave regardless of gender, and various staff perks like annual gifts and opportunities for store travel roles.
