Job description
Role overview
This permanent post is for a Delivery Postie with Driving at the Wellington (TA) Delivery Office in Wellington, England, United Kingdom. The position involves 37 hours each week, spread over 5 days from Monday to Sunday. Usual shifts run Monday to Saturday from 07:30 to 15:30, with Sunday hours from 12:00 to 20:00.
Because of operational needs, you will also be expected to cover one Sunday in the rota from Taunton Delivery Office.
Royal Mail describes this as a chance to join the organisation during a period of change and future-focused improvement. The role supports nationwide deliveries in all weather conditions and serves local communities by bringing mail and parcels to homes and businesses.
What the job involves
This is a physically active position that includes walking for long periods, working outdoors, and completing deliveries reliably and safely. The role is suited to someone who enjoys being part of the local community and providing helpful, consistent service to customers.
Candidate profile
The ideal person is energetic, self-driven, well organised, punctual, and comfortable working independently. A friendly, approachable manner is important, along with pride in doing good work and a strong connection to the community.
You must hold a full UK manual driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points.
Pay and benefits
The position offers a guaranteed hourly rate of £13.68, paid monthly and adjusted to reflect working hours.
Other benefits include 22.5 days of holiday, increasing with service length and adjusted if working fewer than 37 hours per week; a full uniform; a company pension with competitive employer contributions; career development opportunities such as trainee manager and apprentice pathways; enhanced family-friendly leave and pay options; 24/7 wellbeing support for you and your family; discounts on shopping, travel, attractions, beauty products, and gym memberships; and free stamps at Christmas.
Application notes
If shortlisted, the first step will be an interview invitation from the recruitment team. Applicants should keep their contact details current and review the document checklist and health-related guidance before applying, as these may affect eligibility and the recruitment process.
Royal Mail states that it is committed to inclusion, reflects the communities it serves, welcomes applications from all candidates, and actively encourages applications from the Armed Forces community, including cadet instructors and spouses or partners. Reasonable adjustments can be discussed with the recruiter if needed during hiring.
Working pattern notes
For search purposes, roles with 35 to 37 hours per week are shown as full-time. However, any post below 37 hours per week is treated as part-time in the employment contract.
