What you will do

• Follow company procedures, standards, and policies in daily work.
• Welcome customers in a courteous and helpful way.
• Deliver consistent service aligned with Safeway customer programs.
• Handle register transactions using cash, cheque, credit card, debit, and gift card payments.
• Offer product samples to shoppers.
• Prepare hot and cold deli items such as sandwiches, chicken, salads, soups, and specialty trays.
• Operate commercial equipment such as slicers, fryers, and ovens.
• Prepare product orders and place merchandise requests.
• Receive stock and rotate inventory properly.
• Stock and replenish deli display cases and showcases.

Skills and qualifications

No prior deli experience is needed. The role suits someone who learns quickly, works well in a busy setting, communicates clearly, and enjoys helping customers. A team-first attitude, strong attention to safety, and flexibility with work hours are important. Knowledge of different meat cuts is considered an advantage.

Work environment and physical demands

• You must be comfortable working in a fast-moving retail environment.
• Regular use of a computer and point-of-sale system is part of the job.
• The work involves constant standing, reaching, and gripping.
• Frequent bending, walking, twisting, pushing, and pulling are required.
• There is constant lifting of items up to 10 pounds.
• Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds may be needed, including lifts from waist, shoulder, and low levels.
• You may occasionally be exposed to heat and cooking exhaust.

Schedule and availability

Flexible working hours are required. Evening and weekend availability is strongly preferred. The original posting also notes Sunday availability as a scheduling requirement for Alberta locations.
