Deck Officer

Role overview

Stena Line is seeking a Deck Officer for its Holyhead to Dublin service. This position offers a strong balance between work and personal time, along with opportunities to build your career at sea.

In this role, you report to the Master and remain directly responsible to the vessel’s command team for carrying out your duties. The work is varied and provides regular chances to strengthen your problem-solving ability across different operational situations.

Key duties

• Oversee the areas assigned to you by the Chief Mate or Master.
• Carry out your duties as part of the vessel’s emergency response structure.
• Support onboard maintenance activities in line with the Planned Maintenance Program.
• Stay fully acquainted with the ship’s operating and navigation procedures.
• Help identify and manage risks to the vessel, passengers, crew, and environment, and apply suitable controls.
• Escalate any incident, accident, injury, possible hazard, or equipment defect to the Chief Officer, especially where safety equipment is involved.
• Keep up to date with the relevant procedures and requirements set out in the SMS within the DOCMAP system.
• Show initiative by taking an active interest in duties above your current rank so you can step up confidently when needed.
• Serve as a navigating officer on the bridge.
• Support vessel loading and unloading operations.

Qualifications

• Valid STCW training and ENG1 certificate.
• Officer of the Watch Unlimited CoC.
• Legal right to work in the UK.

Preferred background

• Passenger Safety Training.
• Crowd Management Training.

Experience on passenger vessels is preferred for this opening.
