Job description

Role overview

The Day Care Worker helps provide daily care, supervision, safety, and developmental support for children at the MMFN Daycare Centre. This role contributes to age-appropriate programming, culturally respectful activities, healthy daily routines, and a clean, secure, and nurturing environment.

Key duties

  • Support the planning and delivery of suitable daycare activities and programs that match children’s ages and promote development in a culturally respectful way.
  • Guide, encourage, demonstrate, and supervise children throughout the day while maintaining a safe and considerate approach.
  • Assist with preparing and serving healthy meals and snacks according to daycare routines and supervisor instructions.
  • Observe children’s health, safety, and overall well-being and respond appropriately to their needs.
  • Respond to parent questions and concerns and escalate matters to the Daycare Supervisor when needed.
  • Record observations and complete reports or other documentation as required.
  • Work with the daycare team to suggest and implement improvements to the program.
  • Comply with all daycare policies, procedures, rules, and expectations for developmentally appropriate behaviour.
  • Maintain professional relationships with children, parents, caregivers, colleagues, and supervisors.
  • Help keep the daycare space clean, organised, and safe.
  • Carry out other reasonable duties related to daycare operations as assigned.

Requirements and experience

Candidates should have experience working with children in a daycare, preschool, school, recreation, family support, or similar child-focused setting. Strong verbal communication skills, the ability to work respectfully with children, families, and colleagues, and a team-oriented, proactive approach are important. The role also calls for a professional, dependable, responsive, and positive attitude, along with an understanding of confidentiality in a child-care and family-service setting. Applicants must be physically able to lift and carry up to 45 pounds and perform work that involves both standing and sitting.

Mandatory checks and access needs

A recent RCMP/police abstract with vulnerable sector screening is required, and it must be dated within the last 3 months. A valid driver’s licence and access to a personal vehicle are also required, as the location is rural and public transportation is not available.

Preferred training

First Aid, CPR, ECE Assistant certification, or similar training is considered an advantage.

Work environment and benefits

The employer offers a supportive and professional workplace, competitive compensation, a Manulife health benefits plan, and participation in a pension plan with employer matching contributions of up to 5.5%. The schedule is 63 hours every two weeks, with every other Friday off to support work-life balance. Relocation assistance may be available for eligible applicants coming from outside Gold River, British Columbia.
