Job description

About Paymentology

Paymentology is a global issuer-processor helping banks and fintech companies issue and manage Mastercard and Visa cards at scale across more than 60 countries. Its multi-cloud platform is built for real-time data handling, strong scalability, and flexible processing options, whether shared or dedicated.

Role overview

We are hiring a Data Platform Engineer to join the Data Engineering team and help create a modern data platform from the ground up. This is a new-build opportunity centred on designing scalable infrastructure, developing dependable data pipelines, and setting up observability so the platform remains secure, high-performing, and reliable.

You will work alongside data engineers, analysts, and senior technical partners to shape and operate the core data stack, including cloud infrastructure, storage, and processing components. The role suits an experienced engineer who brings strong cloud and data platform expertise and enjoys working in a fast-moving global fintech setting.

Key responsibilities

  • Build cloud-based data platform infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code, with Terraform as a core tool, while keeping scalability, security, reliability, and cost control in mind.
  • Create and maintain CI/CD pipelines that streamline infrastructure provisioning, data workflow automation, and data pipeline releases.
  • Set up and run observability tooling, including monitoring, logging, metrics, and alerting, to improve platform visibility and response times during incidents.
  • Partner with data engineers and other teams to design and deliver data pipelines, data models, and platform features aligned to technical and business needs.
  • Follow best practices for high availability, disaster recovery, security, cost optimisation, and documentation of infrastructure patterns, architecture choices, and operational processes.

Requirements

  • 3 to 5 years of practical experience in Data Engineering, Platform Engineering, or DataOps.
  • A demonstrated history of owning the full delivery of reliable, scalable data platforms and infrastructure.
  • Working experience with data engineering tools such as dbt, Apache Airflow, or Apache Kafka.
  • Strong hands-on capability with Terraform and cloud architecture patterns on AWS or GCP.
  • Deep familiarity with AWS or GCP data storage and processing services such as BigQuery, Snowflake, S3, and Redshift.
  • Experience with Kubernetes and containerised workloads for platform services.
  • Experience building observability stacks for monitoring, logging, metrics, and alerting.
  • Solid programming ability in Python, SQL, and Bash for pipeline development, automation, and data processing.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in a fully remote team.
  • Interest in growing deeper expertise in data architecture, data modelling, and MLOps.
  • Exposure to real-time processing tools such as Kafka or Spark Streaming, and to SQL and NoSQL storage systems, is an added advantage.

Benefits and culture

  • Join a diverse, global team working on meaningful payments infrastructure.
  • Work in an environment that supports growth, purpose, and real impact across international markets.
  • Be part of an organisation committed to inclusion and equal opportunity.
