Role Summary

The Data Center Medium Voltage Technician is responsible for operating, maintaining, and repairing critical electrical distribution systems ranging from 11 kV to 33 kV to ensure uninterrupted operations within the data center. The technician will handle maintenance of switchgears, transformers, and generators, enforce Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) safety procedures, and record operational details in the Computer-Aided Facility Management (CAFM) system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot medium voltage switchgear, ring main units, circuit breakers, and protection relays.
  • Carry out routine maintenance on transformers, generators, and distribution cables to avoid facility outages.
  • Perform specialized electrical tests including insulation resistance, Hi-Pot, contact resistance, and relay calibration.
  • Comply rigorously with electrical safety standards and LOTO protocols.
  • Respond promptly to emergency power failures, alarms, or abnormal situations in the critical power chain.
  • Maintain detailed logs of maintenance activities, observations, and parts usage in the CAFM system.
  • Conduct daily performance monitoring of electrical equipment during inspections.
  • Adhere to standard operating procedures and emergency operating procedures during preventive and corrective maintenance tasks.

Qualifications and Knowledge

  • Diploma in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
  • In-depth knowledge of critical power infrastructure such as UPS systems, standby generators, and automatic transfer switches (ATS).
  • Familiarity with electrical diagnostic testing, fault analysis, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Strong understanding and compliance with health and safety protocols, especially when dealing with energized and mechanical equipment.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience working with industrial or commercial medium/high voltage electrical systems.
  • Proven experience in both preventive and corrective maintenance of medium voltage equipment.

Skills and Abilities

  • Proficient in interpreting complex electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, and protection schemes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Willingness and capability to work rotational on-call shifts.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and adapt to changing conditions.
  • Competent in diagnosing root causes of equipment malfunctions.
