Job Summary

The Customs Specialist is primarily responsible for managing the setup and clearance of shipments imported into Canada via multiple transport modes. This involves handling a variety of commodity types while rigorously adhering to Canada's Customs Act and regulations as set by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).

Key Responsibilities

• Organize and release shipments for designated accounts.
• Manage complex shipment cases with occasional guidance.
• Monitor incoming shipments and maintain communication with clients as necessary.
• Submit final accounting to CBSA for specific accounts.
• Coordinate payment of invoices related to steamship lines, warehouses, and government bodies.
• Arrange cargo transportation post-release, maintaining strong relationships with trucking partners.
• Detect and recommend improvements for tasks requiring special handling within their scope.
• Follow all departmental and organizational standard operating procedures and policies.
• Contribute actively to weekly team meetings.

Quality, Health & Safety

• Support company’s ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 certification efforts.
• Perform duties aligned with DSV's Quality, Health, Safety and Environment policies.
• Participate in sustainable practices that reduce environmental impact and workplace incidents.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Progressing toward Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) designation.
• 3 to 5 years of experience in freight forwarding and/or customs brokerage.

• Standard working hours with some extended hours depending on business needs.
