Job description
Role Overview
This position is focused on ensuring international freight moves through customs and regulatory checks accurately and without delay. You will work with customers, government authorities, and internal stakeholders to support efficient clearance activity while keeping all processes compliant with applicable rules.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage customs clearance activities for both import and export cargo from start to finish, while staying aligned with local and international compliance requirements.
- Examine shipping and customs paperwork, assign the correct customs classification, and calculate duty and tax obligations.
- Address customs issues, answer customer queries, and take a proactive approach to resolving clearance delays or problems.
- Coordinate with government departments, regulators, and internal teams to help shipments clear in a timely and efficient manner.
Education
A secondary-school qualification or an equivalent credential is required.
Experience
Applicants should have at least 3 years of work experience in customs. Associate-level candidates may be considered without prior experience. Lead-level candidates must have at least 5 years of customs experience, including a minimum of 2 years with FedEx or TNT.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong understanding of customs rules, procedures, and trade compliance requirements
- Comfort using customs clearance systems and online customs portals
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and general computer use
- Good interpersonal communication and issue-resolution ability
- Strong planning and organizing skills with high accuracy and attention to detail
