Job description

About the role

As a Tesco Customer Delivery Driver, you will be the person customers meet at their doorstep, representing the brand on the road and in their homes. The job goes beyond simply driving; it combines safe vehicle operation, customer care, and dependable delivery service. The work is active, practical, and varied, with each shift bringing different routes and customer needs. Most of the day is spent working independently, while support remains available from managers and colleagues at the store base.

Availability window

Expected working availability includes the following days and time ranges:

  • Sunday: 15:00 to 22:00
  • Monday: 08:00 to 18:00
  • Tuesday: 08:00 to 18:00
  • Wednesday: 18:00 to 22:00
  • Thursday: 18:00 to 22:00
  • Saturday: 08:00 to 18:00

Key duties

You will be responsible for delivering shopping to customers’ homes within their chosen time slot while making the experience feel friendly, reliable, and reassuring.

The role includes keeping the van, trays, and work area clean, orderly, and ready for use so that orders arrive in excellent condition.

You must load the vehicle safely, complete the required checks, and make sure it is roadworthy and prepared for delivery work.

When needed, you will explain substitutions, short-dated items, or order changes clearly and courteously, while arranging refunds where appropriate.

All items must be handled carefully, with every order treated as though it were your own, so customer trust and product quality are maintained.

At the doorstep, you are expected to provide warm service and leave customers feeling valued and well cared for.

What Tesco is looking for

The role calls for someone who can build positive working relationships with colleagues and contribute to a strong team atmosphere.

You should be friendly and welcoming in all interactions with customers and coworkers.

Flexibility and adaptability are important, as customer needs can change quickly while you are out on the road or in store.

A valid UK, EU, or EEA driving licence is required, either full or automatic, held for at least 12 months, and you must have no more than 3 penalty points.

Pay and benefits

Pay starts at £14.18 per hour, and this increases to £15.45 per hour in stores located within the M25. Some locations may also include extra payments.

A minimum of 16 hours per week is guaranteed, although some roles are available from 12 hours per week.

Benefits include holiday entitlement starting at 20 days plus one personal day, increasing to 22 days after 12 months, in addition to Bank Holidays.

Flexible working is available from the first day.

You will receive 10% off with the Colleague Clubcard, rising to 15% on pay-day weekends, plus a second card that can be shared with family.

Free wellbeing support is available for mind, body, and life.

The package also includes life cover worth five times your pay and an award-winning pension with matching contributions up to 7.5%.

Other benefits include access to discounts, shares, and cycle-to-work schemes, along with a provided uniform and policies designed to support important life events.
