Where you'll work
Job description
Overview
In this customer-facing driving role, you will represent Tesco on the road and in customers’ homes, making sure shopping is delivered with care and a friendly approach. The job is practical, active, and varied, with each shift bringing different situations. Although you’ll spend much of the day working on your own, you’ll have support from managers and colleagues at the store base whenever needed.
The starting pay is £14.18 per hour, increasing to £15.45 per hour in stores inside the M25. In some locations, extra payments may also be available. The role comes with a guaranteed minimum of 16 hours per week, and 12-hour positions may also be offered.
Availability Window
The stated working availability is Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 09:00 to 19:00, plus Friday from 19:00 to 23:00.
Key Duties
You will be responsible for ensuring each delivery is handled smoothly, safely, and to a high standard. This includes preparing the van and all delivery equipment properly, keeping everything clean and organised, completing vehicle checks, and loading shopping carefully so it arrives in excellent condition.
You’ll also speak with customers about substitutions, order changes, and short-dated items in a courteous and helpful way, arranging refunds when required so the shopping experience stays positive. Every product should be treated with care, and deliveries must be made within the promised time slot while providing a warm doorstep service.
What You Need
This position requires someone who can work well with others and help maintain a strong team spirit, while also being approachable and welcoming with both customers and colleagues. You should be comfortable adapting quickly when customer needs change and willing to embrace change while working both in-store and on the road.
A full or automatic UK, EU, or EEA driving licence is required, and it must have been held for at least 12 months. No more than 3 penalty points are permitted.
Rewards and Benefits
Colleagues receive holiday starting at 20 days plus a personal day, increasing to 22 days after 12 months, along with Bank Holidays. Flexible working is available from day one. You’ll also get 10% off with the colleague Clubcard, rising to 15% on pay-day weekends, plus an additional card to share with family.
Other benefits include free wellbeing services, life cover worth five times pay, and an award-winning pension with matching contributions up to 7.5%. There is also access to a range of optional benefits such as discounts, shares, and cycle-to-work schemes. Uniform is provided, and there are policies in place to support important life moments.
