Job description

About the role

Tesco is recruiting Customer Delivery Drivers for the Cabra area in Dublin. This position is central to the home shopping service and is often the first direct contact customers have with the business. The work is practical, active and varied, with each shift bringing different customer needs.

While you will spend much of your day working independently on deliveries, you will still be backed by managers and colleagues at the base whenever support is needed.

Shift pattern: Various shifts are available.

Key duties

  • Deliver a strong home shopping service by keeping the customer experience at the centre of every task.
  • Load the van when needed and complete checks to make sure the vehicle is roadworthy.
  • Follow the route and delivery schedule assigned to you.
  • Arrive in uniform and present yourself ready to assist customers.
  • Drive safely, responsibly, and in line with legal requirements.
  • Show courtesy to all other road users.
  • Greet customers warmly and address them by name where appropriate.
  • Handle each delivery carefully, as if it were your own.

What you need

  • A full Irish or EU driving licence, manual or automatic, held for at least 2 years.
  • No more than 3 penalty points on your licence.
  • A safe, considerate driving style.
  • A genuine enjoyment of helping others.
  • A friendly manner, a good sense of humour, and strong communication skills.
  • The confidence to use common sense and take initiative.
  • A mindset that values making a positive difference for customers and colleagues.
  • The ability to stay composed under pressure.

Recruitment checks and conditions

As part of the hiring process, any job offer will depend on Garda Vetting. You will also need to provide evidence of your current penalty points at the assessment stage. This can be obtained from the National Driver Licence Services (NDLS) by calling 1890 41 61 41, selecting option 4, and quoting your driver number.

Applications from people who have been disqualified from driving within the last 10 years cannot be accepted.

If successful, your offer will also depend on you supplying your bank account details before your agreed start date.

Pay and benefits

  • New drivers receive €18.24 per hour, plus an extra premium for Sunday work.
  • Contracts are available for both part-time and full-time work, ranging from 20 to 39 hours per week.
  • There are a variety of shift options.
  • Annual bonus scheme.
  • Colleague Clubcard discounts: 10% in stores and online, 15% on one weekend each month (Friday to Sunday), and 20% off twice a year.
  • 20% discount on F&F clothing all year round, with the option to extend these discounts to a family member using a second Clubcard.
  • Virtual GP service with free and confidential online consultations and prescription support; reduced-cost access for eligible family members living at the same address.
  • 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme for emotional support, plus wellbeing services under the Body, Mind and Life approach.
  • Life assurance.
  • Pension plan.
  • Save As You Earn scheme.
  • Paid family leave.
  • Bike to Work scheme.
  • Long service awards.
  • Commuter scheme.
