Job description
About the role
As a Customer Delivery Driver, you’ll be the person customers see representing Tesco on their doorstep. The job goes beyond simply driving: it combines safe delivery, helpful communication, and dependable service. The work is practical and active, with variety across each shift, and you’ll spend much of the day working on your own while still being supported by managers and colleagues at the store.
Working pattern
The availability window for this position is:
- Sunday: 17:00 to 23:00
- Monday: 17:00 to 23:00
- Wednesday: 17:00 to 23:00
- Friday: 08:00 to 21:30
- Saturday: 17:00 to 23:00
The role is guaranteed at a minimum of 16 hours per week, although 12-hour roles are also available.
Pay
The hourly rate begins at £14.18, and rises to £15.45 in stores located within the M25. Certain locations may also include extra payments.
Key responsibilities
- Keep the van, trays, and work area clean, orderly, and well arranged so every order reaches the customer in excellent condition.
- Load the vehicle safely and complete the required checks to make sure it is roadworthy and ready for deliveries.
- Explain any order changes, substitutions, or short-dated products clearly and politely, and process refunds when required so the customer experience remains smooth.
- Handle all items carefully and deliver each order with the same level of care you would give your own shopping.
- Arrive within the customer’s time slot and provide friendly, natural service at the doorstep so customers feel appreciated and well served.
What we are looking for
- Someone who can build positive working relationships and contribute to a strong team atmosphere.
- A warm, approachable manner with both customers and colleagues.
- The ability to adapt quickly when customer needs change and to stay flexible while working on the road and in store.
- A valid UK, EU, or EEA driving licence, either full or automatic, held for at least 12 months and with no more than 3 penalty points.
Benefits
- Holiday entitlement starting at 20 days plus one personal day, increasing to 22 days after 12 months, in addition to Bank Holidays.
- Flexible working options available from day one.
- 10% discount with the Colleague Clubcard, increasing to 15% on pay-day weekends, plus a second card that can be shared with family.
- Free wellbeing services supporting mental, physical, and overall life balance.
- Life cover worth five times your pay and a pension scheme with matching contributions up to 7.5%.
- A variety of optional benefits such as discounts, share schemes, and cycle-to-work support.
- Uniform provided, along with policies designed to support you through important life events.
