Job overview

The custodian is accountable for keeping assigned spaces clean, sanitary, and well maintained.

Key duties

• Carry out janitorial cleaning tasks across the assigned location.
• Complete the items listed on the daily work schedule.
• Handle hazardous waste work, including collection, sorting, classification, storage, shipping, receiving, labeling, cleaning, recycling, and packaging of special and hazardous waste materials.
• Use motorized cleaning equipment as needed.
• Keep the assigned area maintained and tidy each day.
• Escalate accidents, unsafe situations, and hazardous conditions to a supervisor.
• Follow safety rules, site procedures, policies, and work instructions.
• Intervene when unsafe actions are observed, including your own or others’ behavior.
• Work cooperatively as part of a team.
• Handle repetitive work tasks consistently and accurately.
• Keep the work area clean and organized at all times.
• Follow company protocols, rules, and standard operating procedures.
• Accept direction from supervisors and respond appropriately to oversight.
• Communicate professionally with leads, supervisors, coworkers, managers, and customers.
• Step in to cover work during staffing shortages.
• Help the shift lead finish punch-list items.
• Use the correct personal protective equipment.
• Maintain a professional appearance and professional conduct.
• Understand the importance of customer service and customer satisfaction.
• Work with reporting systems and support environmental-related responsibilities.

Qualifications

No formal education is required. A combination of education and experience is acceptable. Ideally, candidates bring 3 to 6 months of training or related experience.

Certifications and licenses

• A valid driver’s license may be required.
• Completion of safety and task training certifications is required.
• Forklift certification may be required.

Physical requirements

The role involves sitting, talking, or listening at times, and the employee must be able to lift and move up to 35 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be available for qualified individuals with disabilities.

Work schedule and compensation

The shift runs Sunday through Thursday from 9:30 PM to 6:00 AM. Pay is $13.75 to $14.75 per hour.
