Overview

Join the Ministry of Education New Zealand in Whangarei as a Curriculum Advisor, a permanent full-time position dedicated to enhancing secondary educational programs. This role involves assisting schools in creating high-quality teaching and learning initiatives that align with the latest curriculum and NCEA frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the development of teaching and learning plans and assessments that align with government curriculum goals to improve student learning outcomes.
  • Deliver tailored curriculum solutions addressing the diverse needs of students, focusing on equitable academic success.
  • Support early learning centers, kura, and schools in collaboration with whānau, hapū, and iwi to incorporate their aspirations into educational programs.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative networks within local communities to share effective educational practices.

Candidate Profile

  • Demonstrable expertise in curriculum design with current practical experience in educational settings, preferably in secondary education.
  • Thorough understanding and recent practical experience with teaching, learning leadership, curriculum, and assessment methodologies, aimed at facilitating professional transitions in education.
  • Familiarity with te ao Māori, including understanding of Te Reo, tikanga, and mātauranga Māori.
  • Knowledge of design thinking principles related to creating inclusive and accessible learning environments.
  • Ability to analyze data to detect patterns and influence educational strategies and organizational decisions.
  • Strong insight into practical educational contexts.
  • Excellent diplomacy, interpersonal communication, and facilitation capabilities, adaptable to various settings.
  • Possession of a current full driver's license for required travel.
  • Commitment to uphold Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.

About the Team

The position is part of the Education Services Group, which provides integrated, well-coordinated support to education providers to enhance student participation and achievement. The group focuses on improving practice and guidance consistency, delivering direct education support, and monitoring service effectiveness and equity.

Additional Details

Salary Range: 100296 - 121490 NZD annually plus KiwiSaver contributions. The final salary will depend on qualifications and experience. Applications close on August 16, 2026.
