Overview
The Country Safety and Security Manager (CSSM) leads safety, security, and risk management efforts at Aga Khan Education Service, India (AKES, I) and the Aga Khan Academy, Hyderabad (AKAH). This role involves creating and applying risk-based policies, strategies, and procedures aligned with broader AKDN guidelines. The CSSM collaborates with local bodies and official entities to provide strategic safety insights, ensuring informed decisions by AKES, I and AKAH leadership. A key responsibility includes mentoring and supporting safety staff and security contacts across multiple regions including Mumbai, Gujarat, and Telangana. Reporting functionally to the Global Safety and Security Lead (GSSL), the CSSM works closely with the AKDN's Department of International Security (DIS).
Safety and Security Management
- Formulate and execute a comprehensive safety and security management framework consistent with AKDN Security Level System (SLS).
- Conduct mandated assessments, plan implementations, and adapt security procedures to the schools' context and local threat levels.
- Perform audits of school facilities and oversee remedial actions to strengthen security and safety measures.
- Manage strategic safety and business continuity plans while analyzing and disseminating security information.
- Ensure operational functionality of security equipment like CCTV, access controls, alarms, and fire extinguishers, escalating malfunctions as needed.
- Maintain an in-depth understanding of AKES, I's operational areas and supervise appropriate use and upkeep of security resources.
Incident Management
- Establish and prepare critical incident management teams (CIMT) at schools to handle emergencies effectively, including collaboration with emergency services.
- Evaluate safety measures and incident responses via data analysis and feedback.
- Support CIMT and supervisors during incidents, ensuring adherence to safeguarding policies coordinated with school Safeguarding Lead.
- Develop resilient communication systems for reliable emergency coordination.
Coordination and Partnerships
- Work under functional guidance of AKDN DIS and Safety & Security Leads to align with global protocols.
- Build and maintain working relationships with law enforcement, local leaders, and emergency agencies to secure necessary support.
- Oversee contracted security providers through regional safety focal points, monitoring compliance with policies and key performance indicators.
- Participate actively in monthly security coordination meetings and coordinate safeguarding policy execution.
Training and Awareness
- Organize safety and security workshops, trainings, and drills for all AKES, I personnel.
- Provide regular training to security guards, housekeeping, and drivers on safety protocols.
- Conduct awareness programs for students on safety, security, and safeguarding under the guidance of Safeguarding Leads.
- Ensure legal compliance regarding fire safety and first aid training and preparedness.
Private Security Management
- Advise on selection and management of contracted security companies, ensuring operational requirements are met and service agreements upheld.
- Carry out periodic reviews and maintain liaison with private security providers.
Support and Compliance
- Investigate and address security breaches and non-compliance incidents.
- Oversee proper documentation and record keeping of all safety, security, and safeguarding activities across schools.
- Prepare reports, attend meetings, and perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
Candidate Profile
- Minimum bachelor’s degree, preferably in security studies, security risk management, or an arts/science discipline.
- At least five years’ experience in security roles, including armed or related forces, with preference for safety and security management within the education sector.
- Strong awareness of the political, social, economic, and security landscape in India.
