Role Overview
As the Country Manager for Australia, you will spearhead the company’s growth initiatives by managing commercial expansion, establishing operational infrastructure, cultivating key customer relationships, and ensuring strict adherence to local regulations and governance. This leadership role carries the responsibility for the country’s overall performance, including revenue increase, profitability, market penetration, and team development.
Primary Responsibilities
- Design and implement growth strategies for Australia that align with the Strategic Business Unit and overall corporate goals.
- Analyze market trends, competitive landscapes, and growth opportunities to position the company effectively.
- Set up and reinforce the company’s presence in the Australian healthcare market.
- Forge and sustain strong partnerships with healthcare providers, distributors, industry organizations, and other critical stakeholders.
- Achieve sales targets, improve market share, and maintain profitability benchmarks.
- Drive business development activities including increasing hospital direct sales and engaging in public tender processes.
- Formulate strategic account plans for key clients and explore new ventures such as alliances and licensing.
- Develop a robust product portfolio incorporating new launches, complex generics, specialty drugs, and differentiated products, while collaborating with regulatory teams for approvals.
- Take full ownership of the country’s financial performance including budgeting, forecasting, and monitoring business metrics.
- Ensure comprehensive compliance with Australian regulatory, legal, and corporate governance standards, managing local registrations and quality assurance.
- Build, lead, and nurture a high-performance team that promotes accountability, collaboration, and client-centered service.
- Guarantee operational efficiency and continuity in all country activities.
Qualifications & Experience
- A bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Pharmacy, Business, or a related discipline; an MBA is preferred.
- 12 to 15+ years of progressive experience within the pharmaceutical or healthcare sectors, particularly in the Australian marketplace.
- Proven expertise in country-level management, sales leadership, P&L accountability, and business development.
- A deep understanding of Australia’s healthcare infrastructure, hospital procurement, tender mechanisms, and regulatory frameworks.
- Demonstrated success in portfolio strategy, product introductions, and expanding market presence.
- Exceptional leadership qualities combined with strong negotiation, stakeholder engagement, and communication skills.
