Role Overview
The Costing Merchandiser will be responsible for preparing precise product costings for a women's ethnic wear line. This includes calculating fabric usage, trims, processing, production expenses, and maintaining detailed costing records. Collaboration with sourcing, product development, merchandising, and production teams is essential to ensure cost accuracy and prompt submission of pricing documents while supporting cost efficiency and margin goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Thoroughly analyze garment costs including fabric consumption, trims, packaging, processing, and baseline production charges.
- Regularly update and maintain production documents such as Bill of Materials (BOM), cost cards, pricing databases, marker efficiency reports, blocking parameters, and fabric yield statistics.
- Work closely with sourcing, product development, merchandising, and factory production units to align costs before large-scale production.
- Identify opportunities to reduce costs without sacrificing design quality or fabric standards.
- Assess cost viability of upcoming sample designs to ensure they meet commercial margin objectives before production approval.
- Meet strict deadlines for submission of raw material quotations, final garment costings, and detailed operational reports.
Qualifications and Skills
- Between 1 to 3 years of practical experience in garment costing, production merchandising, or apparel manufacturing; experience in garment export is advantageous.
- Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Fashion Design, Garment Manufacturing Technology, or Apparel Merchandising from reputed institutes like NIFT, Pearl Academy, or equivalent.
- In-depth knowledge of women's ethnic wear costing, fabric characteristics, traditional printing/dyeing methods, embroidery work, and garment assembly.
- Proficient in MS Excel or Google Sheets with strong data handling and advanced mathematical calculation skills.
- Highly organized with excellent coordination abilities, proactive problem-solving skills, and a strong commitment to follow-up and deadline adherence.
