Role Overview
We are looking for a meticulous and proactive Assistant Controller to oversee project cost management and financial accuracy across multiple construction projects. This role supports budgeting processes, expenditure monitoring, and overall financial health while ensuring compliance with industry standards and transparency.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure adherence to Project Management decisions with thorough documentation.
- Prepare triannual budget and forecast reports for Project Managers with periodic updates.
- Coordinate the corporate overhead budget thrice yearly with support.
- Analyze accounts in detail to detect variances, discrepancies, or possible cost overruns.
- Verify divisional operational accounts for reliability, checking margins, job outcomes, receivables risks, stock management, and billing follow-up.
- Ensure accurate financial reporting for group management accounts, including overhead variance (labor, equipment) and global risks.
- Support month-end procedures by preparing and reviewing monthly and quarterly financial reports.
- Oversee project cost transactions for accurate allocation and necessary recoding.
- Collaborate with Project Managers to guarantee monthly cost recording and project billing.
- Identify and propose improvements for project management and accounting processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Assist with external audits by liaising with auditors and preparing working papers.
- Respond to senior management inquiries promptly.
- Provide comprehensive monthly variance analyses, including fuel and labor hours.
- Conduct monthly environmental indicator audits and reporting.
- Advise and support senior management as needed.
- Develop and implement accounting controls and assist with audits.
Candidate Requirements
- 2-3 years' experience in construction or project-based environments.
- At least 3 years reporting experience within a multi-divisional organization, preferably construction industry.
- Professional accounting certification (CPA) preferred.
- Competency in report design, execution, and support.
- Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail, including account analysis and bank reconciliation.
- Ability to multitask effectively in a team setting.
- Excellent verbal and written communication capabilities.
- Time management skills with prioritization focus.
- Creative problem-solving aptitude.
- Detail-oriented and conscientious work ethic.
