Job description

Role overview

Eco-Business is seeking a seasoned journalist to join its editorial team in Singapore. The role focuses on creating daily coverage of sustainable development developments across Asia Pacific, with an emphasis on business and policy reporting. The position is based at the company’s Singapore headquarters and involves close collaboration with editorial colleagues and the EB Studio team on branded content.

The ideal candidate will bring newsroom experience, excellent written and spoken English, and a strong grasp of energy and finance topics in the region. Experience in editorial project coordination will be an advantage, as will a track record in business and policy journalism. The role also involves working with partners from public, private, and multilateral organisations around the world.

Eco-Business is looking for someone with strong news judgment, a high standard of professionalism, the ability to work to demanding deadlines, and a genuine interest in the link between sustainability and business. Skills in photography, design, or multimedia storytelling will be viewed positively.

Key responsibilities

  • Track developments, speak with sources, and help shape the editorial pipeline by pitching and developing timely news and feature ideas for Eco-Business readers.
  • Draft and file stories in different formats, using AI-assisted content tools while following editorial rules and standards.
  • Create content across platforms covering sustainable development themes and trends in the Asia Pacific region.
  • Work with internal teams on thought leadership content when needed.
  • Develop well-researched, original, and impactful investigative pieces.
  • Grow and maintain a reliable network of contacts across relevant sectors.
  • Handle social media activity for assigned stories, including posting and comment moderation.
  • Curate and republish opinion content, oversee content partnerships, and review incoming opinion submissions, including editing where required.
  • Support team projects and events across the region by drafting press releases, promotional copy, event summaries, newsletters, and by proofreading materials.
  • Travel from time to time as needed.

Requirements

  • Strong personal interest in sustainable development issues.
  • A university qualification in Journalism, Communications, Environmental Studies, or another relevant discipline.
  • At least 2 years of journalism experience at an established media outlet, or a strong freelance portfolio with reputable publications.
  • Proven ability to produce original, high-quality journalism, with experience promoting content effectively on digital channels.
  • Ability to break down complex issues into clear, engaging, and accessible stories.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
  • Sound understanding of journalism ethics and editorial standards.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Collaborative mindset and willingness to continue learning and developing.
  • Ability to speak an additional Asian language is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with multimedia production tools such as photography and videography, plus working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, HTML/CSS, and social media or project management tools, is an added advantage.
  • Good understanding of Eco-Business’s brand and editorial approach.

Selection process

Only applicants who meet the experience requirements will be considered for interviews. Shortlisted candidates will need to complete a writing and/or video assessment.
