About the Role

The New Jersey State Department of Corrections is tasked with maintaining the security, safety, and care of incarcerated individuals within state correctional facilities. Joining this department means entering the largest law enforcement agency in New Jersey, committed to enhancing community safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure public safety and security by properly managing individuals within the criminal justice system.
  • Safeguard the well-being of both staff and those incarcerated.
  • Support the rehabilitation efforts to prepare incarcerated individuals for reintegration into society.
  • Promote public awareness and support for the department's objectives and operations.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Possess a high school diploma or an equivalent certification.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • U.S. citizenship is mandatory.
  • Hold a valid New Jersey driver's license.
  • Be eligible to carry a firearm under State and Federal regulations.
  • Successfully pass extensive background checks including employment, driving, domestic violence, and criminal history reviews.
  • Undergo comprehensive medical and psychological evaluations, including drug testing via urine sample.
