About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Content Designer to join a multidisciplinary User-Centered Design team that develops digital services for a prominent UK government organisation. The role involves collaborating with design professionals under the guidance of a Senior Content Designer to craft clear, accessible, and evidence-informed content tailored to users' needs.
Responsibilities
- Create accessible, user-focused content in clear, concise plain English.
- Adhere to established content processes, styles, and pattern guidelines.
- Utilize both qualitative and quantitative data to inform content decisions.
- Innovate in presenting and clarifying complex information effectively.
- Test content with users and refine based on feedback and evidence.
- Collaborate across disciplines including user researchers, interaction and service designers, developers, and product managers within an Agile framework.
- Champion user-centered and evidence-backed content approaches with stakeholders.
- Participate actively in Agile ceremonies, sprint planning, and team activities.
- Contribute to the development of content layouts, prototypes, and wireframes.
Required Experience and Qualifications
- Extensive experience as a professional Content Designer.
- Previous work experience within a UK government department or agency is mandatory.
- Strong understanding of accessibility standards and inclusive content design principles.
- Proven ability to produce content that is clear, accessible, and written in plain English.
- Experience in applying content patterns, style guides, and standards effectively.
- Ability to interpret user research and data to make informed content decisions.
- Experience in testing and iterating content solutions.
- Excellent stakeholder management and collaboration skills.
- Proven experience functioning within Agile delivery teams.
- Eligibility to obtain Security Check clearance.
Desirable Experience
- Experience designing content for government or public sector digital services.
- Familiarity with Government Digital Service principles and standards.
- Use of design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Mural, Lucidchart, or Sketch.
- Experience creating content layouts and wireframes.
- Previous involvement working as part of a broader User-Centered Design team.
Additional Information
- Contract duration is 3 months with the possibility of extension.
- Compensation up to £380 per day, within IR35 regulations.
- Work location options include Manchester, Newcastle, Blackpool, or Sheffield.
- The role is hybrid: onsite attendance required once or twice a month and for in-person sprint meetings.
- Start date: Immediate availability preferred.
- Security clearance: Candidates must be eligible for SC clearance.
