Job description

Role overview

KPMG India is looking for a Consultant to join its Financial Due Diligence (FDD) practice in Mumbai. The role involves taking ownership of financial due diligence assignments, supporting senior team members on larger engagements, and contributing to reporting, analysis, and client interaction across deal advisory work.

Key responsibilities

  • Carry out financial due diligence assignments from start to finish.
  • Identify key issues and perform the associated financial analysis.
  • Independently handle smaller assignments or assist Managers and Directors on larger projects.
  • Draft sections of FDD and VDD reports.
  • Examine financial data in depth, including trial balances, profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
  • Spot unusual movements or patterns and prepare questions for management.
  • Communicate with clients and target company management as needed.
  • Review data books prepared to firm standards and project requirements.
  • Check the work of junior team members and guide them where needed.
  • Build effective working relationships with onshore team members.
  • Support proposal work and business development efforts.

Required profile

The ideal candidate should hold a CA, MBA, CFA, M.Com, or a postgraduate qualification in Commerce and bring 2 to 4 years of relevant experience in a similar role. Suitable backgrounds include professional services firms, third-party KPOs, internal research teams, or strategy teams within major technology companies.

Applicants should have exposure to project and team management, including project scoping, effort estimation, planning, staffing, performance tracking, and team handling. The role also calls for strong independent judgment, the ability to contribute within a team on larger engagements, and confidence in managing ambiguity and complex situations.

Experience in leading a team of 5 to 10 professionals is expected, along with a solid command of financial statement analysis and accounting fundamentals. A strong analytical, commercial, and strategic mindset is important, especially when advising clients on engagements. Interest in deal advisory and a willingness to keep learning are also important.

Behavioral expectations

The consultant should demonstrate ownership and accountability for personal output as well as the work of junior colleagues. High integrity, trust-building ability, strong delivery focus, and the flexibility to adapt to different engagement types, working patterns, and locations are essential. Excellent written and spoken communication skills are also required.
